13TH DAY: HANDS ON COOKING

 

 

 



 

12TH DAY: HIGH LINE, CHELSEA `S MARKET, VILLAGE, WASHINGTON SQUARE

Today it was a fun day. First we walked along the High Line, a former track that was turned into a path. Then, we went to Chelsea's Market and we entered in many shops:a bakery, a pastry shop, a tea shop… After that, Mª Teresa, the American teacher  showed us the rest of the market. My favorite part was the moment we went to buy some crepes. I ordered a crepe with Nutella and I loved it.  It was delicious!! Then,  we walked around the Village until we reached Washington Square. When I returned school, I have to wait until 5:00 pm with some of the students. We order a pizza for dinner when we got home.

Hoy fue un día divertido. Primero caminamos por una antigua línea de ferrocarril que fue convertida en sendero. Luego fuimos a un  mercado de delicatesen llamado Chelsea's  Market  y entramos en varias de sus tiendas: una especializada en galletas y magdalenas, una panadería, una pizzería, una tienda de especias… Después, Mª Teresa, la profesora americana, nos enseñó el resto del mercado. Mi parte favorita fue cuando fuimos a comprar crepes. Yo pedí una crepe de Nutella y me encantó. Después paseamos por diferentes calles del Village en New York hasta llegar a Washington Square. Regresamos al cole y esperé con algunos compañeros hasta las 5 de la tarde que vinieron a buscarme. En casa pedimos pizza para cenar.

11TH DAY: TOP OF THE ROCK, MOMA MUSEUM, 5TH AVENUE, EMPIRE STATE

 



 

 

Today I woke up at 7:00 in the morning like everyday. I had breaksfast with the family and after  that Lina's dad took us to school. There all of us caught the bus to go to New York. First, we visited The Top of the Rock to enjoy the beautiful sights from there. We took lots of photographs. Later, we went into MOMA, where we saw  famous pictures of modern art like "Las señoritas de Avignon".  When we left we walked along the 5th avenue and we entered in the hall of the Empire State Building. We also went into the Apple  and the NBA  store. It was a great day !

Hoy me levanté a las 7:00 de la mañana como todos los días. Desayuné con la familia y después el padre de Lina nos llevó a la escuela. Allí todos los españoles subimos al autobús para ir a Nueva York. Primero fuimos a visitar el Rockefeller center y subimos al edificio Top of the Rock para mirar las vistas de NY. Allí sacamos muchas fotos. Después visitamos el MOMA, un museo de arte contemporáneo, donde vimos un famoso cuadro de Picasso "Las señoritas de Avignon". Al salir del MOMA caminamos por la Quinta Avenida y hasta el Empire State Building. Durante el paseo entramos en la tienda de Apple y en la de la NBA, donde muchos de nosotros compramos algunas cosas. Delante del Empire State Building nos recogió Joe con su autobús y regresamos a la escuela.

10TH DAY: JERSEY SHORE, PLEASANT BEACH.

Today, like everyday, we met at 8 in the morning. Joe picked us at Newark Academy and we went to Jersey Shore to see the beautiful beaches. We saw the typical summer houses and we walked along the boardwalk.

There were many shops, restaurants, arcade games,... We found a huge sand sculpture and we realized people have to pay to go to beach here.

Unfortunately, when we were walking on the boardwalk, it started to rain and we had to come back before what expected. We took refuge  in Jersey's gardens for a while; We ate our packed lunch and bought some presents and souvenirs for our families.

It was a quiet day but we had a lot of fun.

Hoy, como todos los días, nos reunimos a las 8. Joe nos recogió con su autobús en Newark Academy y fuimos a Jersey shore, la costa de New Jersey, para conocer como son sus playas. Vimos las típicas casas de verano y recorrimos el paseo marítimo.

Había muchas tiendas, restaurantes, salones recreativos,.... Nos encontramos con una escultura de arena gigante y nos dimos cuenta que aquí hay que pagar para ir a la playa.

Desafortunadamente, cuando estábamos paseando por la pasarela de madera comenzó a llover y tuvimos que regresar antes de tiempo. Nos refugiamos por un rato en Jersey's Gardens donde comimos y compramos algunos regalos para nuestras familias. Fue un día tranquilo y lo pasamos muy bien.

2ND WEEKEND: The GIANTS' football match, watching a musical, ...

Este domingo nosotros fuimos a un partido de los Giants. Los Estadounidenses son muy seguidores del fútbol americano y desde las doce estábamos en el estadio. Antes de entrar hicimos una barbacoa.

Perdieron el partido pero siempre recordaré esta experiencia.

This Sunday we went to a Giants' match. American people are very supporters of football. We were in the stadium from twelve. Before going into we barbecue.

They lost the game but I always will remember this experience.

This Saturday we went to a football  match at the Rutgers stadium. It was a game between two university teams. Before the match we had a picnic in a park with Fer, Brais and Ävaro. When the game finished, all of us bought some t-shirts.

Este sábado fuimos a ver un partido de fútbol americano en el estadio de los Rutgers, entre dos universidades. Antes del partido comimos en un parque con Fer, Brais y Álvaro. Cuando terminó todos compramos camisetas.

Hoy pasamos la mañana en casa viendo el partido de los Miami Dolphins. A las cuatro de la tarde fuimos a Brodway para comer en un lujoso restaurante italiano. Al acabar de comer fuimos a ver el musical de El Rey León. El teatro estaba justo en frente del restaurante. El espectáculo empezó a las 6:30 y acabó a las 9:30. Fue impresionante. Había muchos actores en el "show" . También cantaban e hicieron un papel fascinante en la obra. El show estaba dividido en dos partes de hora y media cada una. Desde dentro del teatro se podía ver Times Square .

Today we spent the morning and early afternoon at home watching the Miami Dolphin’s game. At four in the afternoon we went to eat at a fancy Italian restaurant. After dinner we went to see the musical The Lion King. The theater was across the street from the restaurant. The show started at 6:30 and ended at 9:30. It was  awesome. There were many actors in the show. The actors also sang and made fascinating roles in the play. The show was divided into two parts, an hour and a half each. From inside the theater you could see the streets of Times Square.

El sábado por la tarde fui con mi hermana americana, Nina, y su primo de compras a nueva york . Estuvimos por el  soho de nueva york y sacamos muchas fotos. A la noche fuimos a cenar a un restaurante y tomamos una pizza enorme.

 



Saturday evening I went shopping to New York with my American sibling, Nina, and her cousin. We were walking around Soho and we took many beautiful photos. At night, we went to have dinner in a nice restaurant and we ate a big pizza.

Today we have breakfast eggs, bacon, toasts and juice. Then Stephanie and me went outside to practice some 'longboarding' with her cousin Ben. Later Elisa came at our house and we ate pizza.

In the afternoon Elisa, Chris, Jesus, Steph and I went to do ice skating. The first time nobody did it well, but when time passed we were improving. We spent since 2:00 to 4:00 skating together, alone or in couples.  We took many photos. The best part was when Jesus thought that he was dominating it and he started to go fast but then he felt on the floor, although with a lot of style.

 

In the end we ate one snack and then we went dinner with a very good friend of Chris, Tomas Pan (a cool name :)

To finish this we made a camp fire and we toasted some “smores” with chocolate and cookies, it was all great!

Hoy por la mañana desayunamos huevos, bacon, tostadas y zumo. Despues Stephanie y yo salimos fuera a practicar un poco de ‘longboarding’ con su primo Ben. Más tarde vino Elisa a nuestra casa y comimos pizza.

Por la tarde Elisa, Chris, Jesus, Steph y yo fuimos a patinar sobre hielo.

 

Al principio ninguno lo hacIamos muy bien, pero luego nos fuimos soltando. Pasamos desde las 2:00 a las 4:00 patinando todos juntos, cogidos de la mano, solos y en parejas. Sacamos muchas fotos. Lo mejor de todo fue cuando Jesus pensaba que lo tenia dominado y empezo a ir rápido, entonces cayó sobre el hielo, pero con mucho estilo.

Al final comimos un aperitivo para luego ir a cenar con un buen amigo de Chris, Tomas Pan (un nombre gracioso J). Para terminar hicimos una hoguera y tostamos “smores” con chocolate y galletas.  Fué todo genial!

This Saturday Serena and I slept till late because we were lacking sleep. Then, I was with her while she was doing her homework.

In the afternoon, we went to an indian party and we dressed up in indian's traditional clothes. When we arrived to the party we had a snack at the reception and, after that, we walked to the hall. We watched a girl dancing and a group of traditional indian singing.

When the perfomance ended, we went to dinner and Serena introduced me to many of her friends.

Este sábado Serena y yo dormimos hasta tarde porque teníamos mucho sueño. Luego estuve con ella mientras hacía sus deberes.

Por la tarde fuimos a una fiesta Indú y nos vestimos con sus ropas tradicionales. Cuando llegamos a la fiesta tomamos un aperitivo en la recepción y después fuimos al Salón. Allí vimos la actuación de una niña bailando y de un grupo de canto indú tradicional.

Cuando acabó la celebración nos fuimos todos juntos a cenar y Serena me presentó a muchos amigos.

7TH DAY: UNITED NATIONS, THE NEW YORK PBLIC LIBRARY, CENTRAL STATION, CHRYSLER BUILDING, BRYANT PARK AND TIMES SQUARE

                                                                                                                                                                                   

 

 

 

Hoy me levanté , desayuné con mi familia americana y fui con ellos al colegio. Alli me encontré con mis compañeros españoles y fuimos todos en bus a New York. Como ya es habitual, Joe era nuestro chófer y nos dejó al lado del edificio de las Naciones Unidas.

Entramos y realizamos una visita guiada en inglés. Mientras fuimos recorriendo l0s distintos departamentos y salas de conferencias. Aprendimos un montón de cosas sobre los órganos y miembros  de la ONU. El guía nos mostró muchos de los regalos que algunos países habían donado. Nos habló sobre el peligro de las armas nucleares y también sobre los objectivos del milenio, sobre derechos humanos, ...

 Today I woke up. I had breakfast with my American family and we went to NA. I met my Spanish friends there and we took the bus to NY. As always, Joe was our bus driver. We stopped at the United Nations building and we did a guided tour around and inside it. We walked through the different conference romos and departments. It was very interesting. We learned about the different organs and countries that form part of this organism. The guide showed us many of the presents that the different countries had donated the UN. He talked to us about the danger of nuclear arms, the millennium goals, the human rights,...

 

 

Al terminar la visita de las Naciones Unidas, caminamos por la calle 42 y visitamos el Chrysler building, Grand Central Station y the NY Public Library. Comimos en Bryant Park  y continuamos andando hasta Times Square. Es impresionante con todas las luces de neón. Antes de regresar a Newark Academy fuimos al Hard Rock Cafe y otras tiendas donde algunos de nosotros compramos camisetas. Al llegar al colegio me recogió mi famila Americana y fuimos al supermercado. Al acabar fuimos todos a cenar a un restaurante y acabamos la noche en el centro comercial.

Then, we walked along 42nd Street and we visited the Chrysler building, Grand Central Station and The NY Public Library. We had lunch in Bryant Park and, finally we found us in Times Square. It's awesome, all the neon lights.

Before returning to NA some of the students bought some t-shirts at Hard Rock Café. At 3:15 pm my American family picked me up at school. We went to the supermarket and when we finished to do the shopping we went to diner at Calendra's restaurant. We ended the night in the mall.

6TH DAY: AT THE NEWARK ACADEMY

 

 

Por la manaña fuimos a Newark Academy como todos los días. Al principio presentamos a nuestro grupo ante toda la escuela y luego fuimos con nuestros respectivos “hermanos” americanos a sus clases. Yo fui con Chris a las clases de fisica, arte (asistio una dibujante profesional), matematicas y filosofia. Tambien hubo un simulacro de incendio. A la hora de la comida comimos pasta y pollo y luego un postre de helado.

In the morning we went to Newark Academy like every day. At the beginning we introduced our group to all of the school and then we went with our respective American "brothers” to their classes. I went with Chris to physics, art ( a professional art painter assisted too ), maths and philosophy. We also had a fire drill. At launch time we ate pasta and chicken and also some ice-cream for dessert.

In the afternoon we invited all of the Spanish kids  and their “American brothers” to our house, due to today it is my birthday and we made a party. When  it was time of blowing the candels all of the people sang to me “happy birthday” and “feliz cumpleaños. The best tale was that my friends fulled my face with the cake and then I couldn’t almost see with one of my eyes, but we had tons of fun!

A la tarde invitamos a casa a todos los españoles y sus hermanos americanos debido a que era mi cumpleaños e hicimos una fiesta. Pasamos el rato jugando al futbolín, hockey y pin-pon entre otras cosas. Y cuando llego la hora de soplar las velas todos me cantaron “Happy Birthday” y “Cumpleaños feliz”. La mejor anécdota fue que mis queridos amigos me llenaron la cara de tarta y despues casi no podía ver por un ojo, pero lo pasamos genial!

5TH DAY:MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY AND CENTRAL PARK

In the morning, we met at Newark Academy and we took a bus to New York City. There was a lot of traffic because today it was the anniversary of September 11th. 

In New York, we went to the museum of Natural History. The museum is very big and interesting and it has many different rooms:  dinosaurs, mamals, ecosystems  and different cultures.

After the museum we went to Central Park, which is one of the biggest parks in the world and a symbol of New York City. The park is really great and it is the home to many different species of animals. Today  it was very hot but it was nice to walk in the shade of the trees.

After visiting the park we went to the bus and we returned to Newark Academy at 3:00.

Por la mañana nos reunimos en la Newark Academy y tomamos un autobús a la ciudad de Nueva York. Había mucho tráfico porque era el aniversario del 11S.

En Nueva York fuimos al Museo de Historia Natural. Es muy grande e interesante y tiene diferentes salas: la de los dinosaurios, la de mamíferos, la de los diferentes ecosistemas, la del mundo marino, la de las culturas del mundo…

Después del museo fuimos a Central Park, que es uno de los parques más grandes del mundo y un símbolo de la ciudad de Nueva York. El parque es genial y encontramos diferentes animales, ardillas, patos, pájaros…

Hoy hizo demasiado calor pero fue agradable caminar bajo la sombra de los árboles.

Después de visitar el parque fuimos al autobús y regresamos a la Newark Academy a las15:00 h.

 

 

 

 

4TH DAY: GROUNDS FOR SCULPTURE AND PRINCETON UNIVERSITY

 

 

 

 

 

Por la mañana fuimos al colegio y allí cogimos el autobús que nos llevó a Grounds for sculpture. Allí vimos cuadros famosos, representados en tres dimensiones, a tamaño natural. Quitamos muchas fotos. Era bonito, aunque yo no conocía algunos de los cuadros; soy una inculta para el arte.

Cuando acabamos la visita al museo, fuimos a comer al restaurante Mediterrana, en Princeton.

Después nos reunimos con Mrs. Wallach, antigua estudiante de Princeton, que nos hizo de guía. Ella nos habló un poco de cada edificio y pudimos entrar en algunos, como la capilla o la sala de conferencias. Siguiendo la ruta, nos encontramos con una fuente, y como hacía mucho calor y estaba permitido, acabamos mojándonos los pies. 

La visita estuvo bien. Vimos muchas cosas como el edificio original, los jardines diseñados por la mujer del director de la universidad, las estatuas de los tigres característicos, etc.

Al acabar la visita le dimos las gracias Mrs. Wallach y fuimos a las tiendas a comprar algo para beber y algún recuerdo.  Todo costaba mucho dinero.

Finalmente, nos fuimos al bus, donde Ms. McNeilly-Anta (la profesora de español de Newark Academy) nos dio un cupcake a cada uno ( Fue una sorpresa ).

Me duelen los pies, pero no estuvo mal.

In the morning we went to the school and the bus took us to Grounds for Sculpture. We saw famous pictures in 3D in a natural size and we took a lot of photos there. It was beautiful, but I didnt know some of the paintings. I am a bit uneducated in art.

When we finished the visit to the museum, we went to the restaurant Mediterrana, in Princeton.

Later we met Mrs.Wallach, who used to be a Princeton student, and she guided us through the place. She told us a little bit about every building and we went in some of them, like the Chapel and the conference room. Keeping the route, we found a fountain, and as it was too hot and it was allowed, we ended up going into the fountain.

The visit was nice. Wwe saw many things like the original building, the gardens that were designed by the Principals wife, the tiger statues, etc.  When the visit ended, we thanked Mrs. Wallach, and we went to the shops so we could buy something to drink and a souvenir (Although it was all really expensive).  When we finished, we went to the bus, where Ms. McNeilly-Anta (the spanish teacher at Newark Academy) gave a cupcake to every one of us (It was a surprise). My feet hurt, but it wasn't that bad.

3RD DAY: STATUE OF LIBERTY, WALL STREET, GROUND ZERO, BROKLIN BRIDGE, CHINA TOWN, L. ITALY

 

 

 Today it was the first day we had to wake up early. We met at Newark Academy at 8 and from there we started the trip to the port of Jersey City, where we took the ferry to "Liberty Island". There, we saw the Statue of Liberty, one of the most famous American symbols. After that, we took another ferry to New York. We landed next to Batery Park and we began to see the city. We visited Wall Street, Ground Zero, Brooklyn Bridge and finally Chinatown and Little Italy, where we had time to go shopping . Around 5:30 h., we returned to Newark Academy, but not before stopping at a viewpoint from where we could see the skyline of New York.

Hoy fué el primer día que hubo que madrugar. Quedamos a las 8 en Newark Academy y desde allí comenzamos el viaje al puerto de Jersey City, donde cogimos el ferry a "Liberty Island". Allí vimos la Estatua de la Libertad, uno de los símbolos americanos más famosos. Después cogimos otro ferry con destino Nueva York. Allí atracamos al lado de Battery Park y comenzamos a ver la ciudad. Estuvimos en Wall Street, en la zona cero, en el puente de Brooklin y finalmente en Chinatown, donde tuvimos tiempo para hacer algunas compras. Sobre las 5:30 h. volvimos a Newark Academy, pero no sin antes parar en un mirador desde el que se veía toda Nueva York.

 

 

 

 

 

 

1ST   WEEKEND

PLAYING  TWISTER

In the morning we went shopping to Macy's with Lucia, Laura and Alex, Haley's best friend. We ate italian food, it was delicious. In the afternoon, we went home. Haley and Alex told me to wear white cothes to play Twister and they asked me to go out to the garden. We put the paper of the Twister on the ground and we started to put paint on each color as it corresponds. The game was about this: One person (in this case Maddy, Haley's sister) twisted the roulette: the roulette says where you have to put your foot and hand. Of course, because of this we got really dirty. Haley's mom almost had a heart attack when she saw us, but she ended laughing with us. After that we just started to run without shoes down the road screaming. When we came home we had to take a shower with the hose so we could go inside. It was really funny, although i had to take a shower 5 times before i got to take the paint off all my body. It is good to know that you can do weird things here too without being stared at awkwardly.

Por la mañana fuimos de compras al Macy's con Lucía, Laura y Alex, la mejor amiga de Haley. Comimos comida italiana, estaba deliciosa. Por la tarde, cuando llegamos a casa, Haley y Alex me dijeron que me vistiese de ropa blanca para jugar al "twister" y que saliese al jardín. Pusimos el papel del suelo, y empezamos a poner pintura en cada círculo del color correspondiente. El juego consistía en que una persona (en este caso Maddy, la hermana de Haley) giraba una ruleta; la ruleta te decía lo que tenías que hacer, el pié y la mano (derecha, izquierda) y el color en que tenías que colocarlo (rojo, azul, verde o amarillo). Como es lógico, nos pusimos como puercas. A la madre de Haley casi le dá algo cuando nos vió aun que acabo riéndose con nosotras. Después nos dió una venada y empezamos a correr descalzas por la carretera gritando. Al volver a casa tuvimos que ducharnos en la manguera un poco para poder entrar en casa. Fue muy divertido, tuve que ducharme 5 veces para sacar toda la pintura y aún así parezco un arco iris descolorido. Es bueno saber que aquí también puedes hacer el mongol sin que te vean (muy) raro.

AT CARLO`S BAKE SHOP

Today I have gone with Serena and her family to Jersey City, Hoboken, and we went through Carlo's Bake Shop, a very famous bakery that comes out on TV, and I was very excited. I took many fotos inside and out of the store and I had to wait for one hour to be attend and buy some cupcakes. Then we went to a restaurant with Serena, her family and two friends of her.

Hoy he ido con Serena y su familia a Jersey City, Hoboken y pasamos por la pasteleria de Carlo, una pasteleria muy famosa que sale en la televisión y estaba muy muy emocionada. Sacamos muchas fotos dentro y fuera de la tienda y tuvimos que esperar una hora para que nos atendieran y comprar unos cupcakes. Luego fuimos a un restaurante con Serena, su familia y dos amigas.

FISHING

Saturday was the first day and we were tired from the travel. We got up early because we went to see a baseball game. It was a hard game. Mike's team lost the first game but they won the second. We only saw the first game. Next we went with Mike's mom to see the beach and we ate there. In the afternoon we played pool, Xbox, and Playstation 3 with him. We had dinner at the boardwalk and we walked on the boardwalk. We shot zombies :DDD

On Sunday, Mike's dad prepared an American breakfast. It was the best breakfast in the world. Afterwards, we went fishing and we caught a lot of fish...... 36 blowfish, 2 king fish, 1 sea robin, and 1 baby seabass. After fishing, we went to his other house. The two houses are AMAZING. After going to his regular house we went to a restaurant for dinner. These days will be amazing.

AT YANKEES' STADIUM

 

 

Mi primer día en USA ha sido muy divertido. La mañana fue tranquila,nos despertamos a las 8:00. Desayuné tortitas. Fue la primera vez que las comía. Por la mañana nos quedamos en casa. A la 13:00 nos fuimos a ver el partido de los Yankees vs Red Sox. Fue muy emocionante. El estadio era gigantesco y había muchísima gente. El partido fue interesante pero un poco más lento de lo que pensaba. No lo vimos entero, pero fue una experiencia genial.

My first day in te USA was very fun. The morning was calm. We get up at 8:00. I  had breakfast pancakes, It was the first time in my life I eat them. In the morning we stayed at home. At 13:00 we left to see the match  Yankees vs Red Sox. It was very exciting. The stadium was gigantic and there were many people. The match was very interesting but  a bit slower than I thought. We didn't see all the match, but it was an amazing experience.
