Dia 10: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA: O Cebreiro (Parte 1)

Hoy mi día empezó muy bien por eso estaba muy feliz.  Me desperté a las 6h30 y me vestí muy rápidamente. Todavía necesitaba preparar mis cosas para el viaje a Santiago de Compostela.  Mi hermana española, Zaira, ya había acabado con su tarea la noche anterior.  Yo tenia prisa y termine mi tarea en menos de diez minutos.  Entonces, fui a la cocina para comer las galletas con leche y jugo de naranja.  Cada mañana yo como este desayuno que es típico de España.  Camine con Zaira al autobús y nos fuimos a su instituto.  En el instituto, yo tuve una conversación con mis amigas de los EEUU.  De repente, Maestra dijo "¡Vamos al autobús!" Por supuesto, nosotros todos entramos en el autobús.  Viajamos por tres horas sin música estadounidense o libros escritos en ingles.  Yo dormí mucho durante el viaje en autobús.  En los momentos cuando yo estaba despierta, yo vi el paisaje de Galicia.  Parecía muy verde, con los bosques que nos rodeaban por todas partes.  También vi vacas y otros animales, como perros y gallinas.

Today started off well and I was in a great mood.  I woke up at 6:30am and got dressed quickly.  I still had to prepare my stuff for our The Road to St James.  My Spanish host sister, Zaira, had already finished her homework the night before.  I was in a hurry and finished mine in 10 minutes.  Then I went to the kitchen to have my cookies, milk, and orange juice.  Every morning I have this breakfast which is very typical in Spain.  I walked to the bus stop with Zaira and we went to school.  At school, I spoke with my friends from the USA.  All of the sudden, Maestra said "Let´s go! On the bus! ¨ As a result, we all got on the bus.  We traveled for three hours without American music or books written in English.  I slept for part of the time.  When I wasn´t sleeping I was enjoying the Galician countryside.  Everything looked very green; we were constantly surrounded by forests. From the bus, I also saw cows and other animals, for example dogs and chickens.

Cuando llegamos a O Cebreiro compramos algunas cositas en las tiendas para los turistas y peregrinos.  Muchos de nosotros nos sacamos una foto con una estatua de piedra y los españoles.

When we arrived at O Cebriero we purchased some souvenirs at little shops that were set up for tourists and pilgrims. Many of us also took a photo with a stone statue and our host siblings. 

Hay una iglesia muy pequena que los peregrinos visitaban al llegar al pueblito  O Cebreiro. Algunos peregrinos hicieron el Camino de Santiago a pie y otros en bicicleta. Nosotros conocimos y hablamos con peregrinos de Francia, Italia, Australia, y de los Estados Unidos.

In O Cebreiro there is a little church that pilgrims visit when they arrive in the village of O Cebreiro. Some pilgrims decide to do the pilgrimage on foot and others ride their bikes. We meet and spoke with pigrims from France, Italy, Australia, and the USA.

Después del almuerzo, empezamos a hacer el Camino de Santiago.  Al principio había mucha niebla y hacia mucho frió.  Por eso, nos juntamos en un grupo como si fueramos pinguinos para mantener un poco de calor. Tuvo éxito nuestro plan pero afortunadamente, no fuimos capaz de mantener al grupo junto mientras caminamos.

After lunch, we began the walk to Saint James.  In the beginning it was foggy and very cold.  In order to solve the problem, we huddled together like penguins in hopes of keeping warmer. Our plan was successful unfortunately, we were not able to stay in penguin formation while we walked.

Dia 9: El Colegio, El Futbol, y El Castillo de Soutomaior

Hoy fue uno de mis dias favoritos porque podia pasar tiempo con mis amigos viejos y pude hacer amigos nuevos tambien. Me desperte a las 7h30, me cepille los dientes, me duche, y me puse mi ropa. Despues de bajar las escaleras, desayuné cereales un platano, y muchas fresas. Entonces, mi padre anfitrion y yo fuimos al instituto en coche.

Today was one of my favorite days because I was able to spend time with old friends and also make new friends. I woke up at 7:30am, I brushed my teeth, took a shower, and got dressed. After going down stairs, I had cereals with a banana and a lot of strawberries. Then, my host father and I drove to school.



Cuando llegamos, necesite ir en un autobus para viaja a otro colegio. En mas o menos 10 minutos llegamos al otro colegio. Allí oi alguien gritar mi nombre. Era mi amiga del ano pasado Clara! Raquel, mi otra amiga, estaba alli también. Con ellas estaba Antonio y Raul. Me divertí mucho hablando con ellos. Un poco mas tarde, visitamos varias clases de niños pequenos. Ellos cantaron muchas canciones para nosotros y me encantaron.

When we arrived at school, I had to get on a bus to go visit our other partner school. I took about 10 minutes to get there. Once there, I heard someone shout my name. It was my friend from last year's immersion, Clara! Raquel, my other friend, was also there. Antonio and Raul were also with the girls. A little later, we visited several children's classes. They sang various songs for us that I thought were adorable.






Al terminar de visitar las clases, fuimos al gimnasio para jugar fútbol contra Adrian y otros chicos españoles que visitaron Newark Academy el ano pasado. Yo jugue defensa y fue muy divertido. Los españoles ganaron el partido aunque solo tenian 6 jugadores y nosotros teniamos 10 jugadores. Fue un partido amistoso.

When we finished visiting the classes, we went to the gym to play soccer against Adrian and some of the other Spanish students that visited NA as part of the Immersion Program last year. I played defense and it was a lot of fun. The Spaniards won despite the fact that they only had 6 players and we had 10. It was a friendly game.










Por la tarde, fuimos al castillo de Soutomaior para disfrutar del paisaje y el castillo. Era precioso el lugar! Aprendimos algunas cosas sobre los caballeros y los nobles que vivian en Espana durante la Edad Medieval. Al salir del castillo escuchamos la musica gallega que se compone con las gaitas. Tambien comimos muchos pichos o tapas de salmon ahumado, jamon serrano, empanada gallega, mejillones, y chorizo. Todo fue delicioso!

In the afternoon, we visited the Castle of Soutomaior to enjoy the country side and castle. It was a breath taking place! We learned about the knights and nobles that lived in Spain during the Middle Ages. Outside of the castle we listened to Gallic music that was played on bagpipes. We also ate little appetizers or tapas of smoked salmon, jamón serrano, empanada gallega, mussels, and chorizo. Everything was delicious!

Dia 8: Las Bateas, La Isla de la Toja, y El Almuerzo

Hoy fue un día muy largo. Nosotros nos despertamos a las ocho y nos levantamos a las ocho y cinco de la mañana. Después de levantarnos Lua y yo comimos el desayuno. Ella tomo zumo de naranja con galletas y yo, otra vez comí galletas sin gluten, magdalenas sin gluten, y Cola Cao. Otra vez, toda la comida era muy rica. Después de comer, nos vestimos, nos cepillamos los dientes y el pelo. Luego, nosotros conducimos a la escuela de Lua.

Today was a very long day. We woke up at 8am and got out of bed at 805am . After getting up Lua and I had breakfast. She had OJ with cookies and I had gluten free cookies, gluten free muffins, and hot chocolate. Once again everything was delicious. After breakfast, we got dressed, we brushed our teeth and hair. Then, we drove to Lua´s school.

Cuando nosotros llegamos, Lua fue a un examen, Ambracio fue a clase, y yo fui con los Americanos. Esperamos en la biblioteca para que terminasen los exámenes. Finalmente, todos nosotros subimos al autobús para ir al Grove. Cuando llegamos, nosotros nos subimos al barco.
When we arrived, Lua when to take her final exam, Ambracio went to class, and I met up with the others. We waited in the library until they finished the exams. Finally, all of us got on the bus to go to Grove. When we arrived, we got on the boat.





El viaje de barco fue mi parte favorita de nuestro día. Primero, nosotros fuimos en la parte superior del barco. Allí nosotros bebimos refrescos. Vimos las bateas y comimos los mejillones frescos que sacaron del mar. Después nosotros bajamos al fondo de cristal para ver los peces y como crecían los mejillones, las ostras, y las vieras debajo del agua. Fue muy guay! Las bateas son muy importantes para la economía regional de Galicia.


The boat ride was my favorite part of the day. First, we went of the top deck of the ship. There we drank refrehsments. We saw the harvest rafts and ate the fresh mussels that had just come out of the water. Then we went down to the glass bottom to observe all the fish and the long ropes where they were harvesting mussles, oysters, and scallops. It was cool! The harvest rafts are a key factor in the regional Galician economy.






Después de la parte educativa, la fiesta empezó. Serena y yo éramos la vida de la fiesta. Nosotras somos muy guay y las jefas del mundo. CHISTE!!!! Nosotras empezamos una fiesta de bailar con el cocinero del barco y casi todos los estudiantes y tambien las profesoras. El viaje en barco fue muy bueno.








After this educational introduction, the party started. Serena and I were the life of the party. JK!!! We got the dance party started and the cook joined in along with almost all the kids and even the teachers. The boat ride was great.















Al volver al puerto, habían muchas vendedores de joyería preparada a mano. Yo compre dos pulseras de conchas (una para mi y una para una amiga). Entonces nosotros fuimos a la Isla de la Toja. Fuimos a una iglesia muy bonita. La iglesia estaba cubierta de muchas conchas. También había una concha dentro de la iglesia. Nosotros salimos de la iglesia y estaba lloviendo muchísimo y fuimos al museo de jabón de la Toja que es muy famoso y bueno para la piel. Ahora cada miembro de nuestro tiene un jabón de la Toja.



When we docked, there were a lot of jewelery vendors with hand made items. I bought two bracelets made of sea shells (one for me and one for my friend). Then we went to the Toja Island. We visited a beautiful little church. It was covered in seashells. There was also a huge sea shell inside the church. When we walked out of the church it was down pouring and we went to the Toja Museum to learn about Toja soap that is really good for moisturizing your skin. Now all of us have a Toja soap souvenir.





Regresamos al autobús y fuimos a una escuela para comer el almuerzo. Yo comí cuatro bocadillos, leche con chocolate, chocolate, y una naranja que me preparo mi familia española. Después de comer, regresamos a la escuela de Lua. Nosotros tomamos el autobús a su casa. Yo estoy escribiendo esto ahora. Por eso, no voy a escribir sobre la cena. Pero vale porque yo he escrito mas de 400 palabras :-)
Adiós!!!!

We returned to the bus and went to a local school to have lunch. I ate four sandwiches, chocolate milk, chocolate, and an orange that my host family prepared for me. After lunch, we returned to Lua´s school. We took the bus home. Now I´m writing this. That's why I won't tell you about my dinner. But don't work I've written more then 400 words :-)

Dia 6: Arde Lucus Fiesta Romana en Lugo, Galicia

Este fin de semana varios estudiantes de NA disfrutaran de la fiesta la epoca romana en Lugo con sus familias espanolas. Esta ciudad gallega tiene las unicas murallas romana que todavia mantienen en pie todo su circuito.

This weekend several NA students will enjoy the Roman festival in Lugo with their host families. This Galician city has the only Roman city walls that are still completely standing and functional.
