Dia 16: Ribadavia, El Barrio Judio, & Las Termas de Prexigeiro
Por la mañana, Lucia y yo nos despertamos a las 9h00. Nosotras desayunamos y yo comí cereales, tostadas, bollos, galletas, y chocolate caliente. En la casa de Lucia, ellos hacen chocolate caliente con leche caliente. También los hoteles y los restaurantes hacen chocolate caliente con leche caliente. A mi me gusta el chocolate caliente mucho. Normalmente, yo uso agua caliente pero ahora cuando yo este en los Estados Unidos usare leche caliente para mis chocolates calientes.
In the morning, Lucia and I woke up at 9:00am. We had breakfast and I ate cereales, donuts, cookies, and hot chocolate. In Lucia´s house they make hot chocolate with hot milk. They also do this in hotels, restaurants. I like hot chocolate a lot. Normally, I use hot water however, from now on I´m going to use hot milk in the United States to make my hot chocolate.
Después de comer, nosotras fuimos a la casa de Vanesa y Haley. Las cuatro chicas íbamos a ir a Pontevedra para ir de compras pero Vanesa estaba enferma. A ella le dolía su cabeza, su estomago, tenia frió, y tenia fiebre. Ella fue al hospital con su padre. Los doctores descubrieron que tenia apendicitis y tuvieron que operarla. Espero que se sienta mejor pronto.
After breakfast, we went to Vanessa and Haley´s home. The four of us were going to go shopping in Pontevedra but Vanessa was sick. Her head and stomach hurt, she was cold, and had a fever. Her dad took her to the hospital. The doctors discovered that she had pendisatis and had to operate. I hope she feels better soon.
Mientras tanto, Lucia, Haley, y yo fuimos a Pontevedra. Nosotras fuimos a BERSHKA. Nosotras compramos tres bufandas rosadas con unicornios. También fuimos al supermercado y yo compre chocolate de España para mi madre y mi familia también. A continuación, fuimos a una tienda de ropa que se llama BLANCO. Había unas rebajas en BLANCO y también en H&M. Haley y yo no quisimos ir a H&M porque hay estas tiendas en los Estados Unidos. En BLANCO, yo compre un vestido y dos camisas. Entonces, nosotras nos encontramos a Lua, Stephanie, y la madre de Lua en la calle. Nosotras fuimos a PULL & BEAR y despues a BERSHKA otra vez para comprar una bufanda para Vanessa.
Meanwhile, Lucia, Haley and I headed to Pontevedra. We went to BERAHKA. There we purchased three pink scarfs with unicorns. We also went to the superbarket and I bought Spanish Chocolate for my mom and the rest of my family. Next, we went to a shop called BLANCO. There were major sales at BLANCO and H&M. Haley and I did not want to go to H&M because we have it in the USA. In BLANCO, I bought a dress and 2 shirts. THen we bumped into Lua, Stephanie, and Lua´s mom on the street. We went to PULL & BEAR and then back to BERSHKA again to buy a scarf for Vanessa.
Cuando nostras esperábamos al padre de Vanessa, pedi una botella de agua en un bar. Con la botella de agua te daban un bocadillo gratuito. En los restaurantes de los Estados Unidos, recibes solo las cosas que tu pagas. Es muy diferente en España. Siempre te ponen un pincho con tu bebida.
When we were waiting for Vanessa´s dad, I asked for a bottle of water in a cafe. Along with the bottle of water they gave me a free sandwhich. In restaurants in the United States, you only get waht you pay for. It is very different in Spain. They always provide you with a snack when you order a drink.
Por la tarde, Lucia y yo fuimos a su colegio para ir a un pueblo que se RIBADAVIA y después a las termas. Hacia mucho sol y calor en el pueblo. Me sentí mal porque Lucia llevaba vaqueros largos. Ribadavia todos los edificios son de piedra y nueve iglesias.
In the afternoon, Lucia and I went to school because we were all going on a trip to RIBADAVIA and then to the hot springs. It was very hot and sunny in the town. I felt bad for Lucia because she was wearing jeans. In Ribadavia all of the building are made of stone and there are nine churches.
Fuimos a un museo de Galicia con fotos del siglo XX. Había una cosa para enrollar lana y mi madre tiene uno también. Fue interesante. Fuimos a una iglesia y al barrio judío.
We went to a Galician Museum with photos from the early 20th Century. There was an old fashion machine to make linen and my mom has a similar one. It was interesting. We went to a big church and then to the Jewish area.
Conocimos a Herminia, una mujer sefardí, que tiene una tienda de pasteles artesanales. Herminia nos dijo que no le gustaba la política pero estaba contenta que Obama gano las elecciones para presidente de los Estados Unidos porque no debe de importar la raza o religión de una persona para poder gobernar. Solo debe importar su inteligencia. Maestra nos compro galletas en la pequeña tienda y a mi me gustaron mucho.
We met Herminia, a Sephardic Ashkenazi women, who owns a artisinal pastry shop. Herminia told us she did care for politics however, she was happy that Obama won the election for president of the United States because a persons race or religion should not matter the important thing is their inteligence. Maestra bought us a variety of cookies from the little store and I liked them a lot.
Al terminar la visita de Ribadavia, fuimos a las termas de Prexigeiro. Había demasiadas reglas: no pidamos gritar ni correr en las termas. A mi me gustaron las termas porque son como un jacuzzi. La segunda terma era mi favorita porque el agua estaba muy caliente.
When we were done with the visit to Ribadavia, we went to the Prexigeiro Hot Springs. There were to many sets of rules: we couldn´t shout or run around in the hot springs. I liked the hot springs because they were like a series of jacuzzis. The second station was my favorite because it was super hot.
Después de las termas, nosotros fuimos a un parque para cenar. Maestra y las otras profesoras trajeron galletas PRINCIPE y patatitas, Twix, y gominolas para nosotros. Nosotros comimos y entonces jugamos en el parque de los niños pequeños. Había columpios y un tobogán. Sacamos muchas fotos y fue muy divertido.
After the hot springs, we went to a park to have dinner. Maestra and the other teachers gave us PRINCIPE cookies, potatoe chips, Twix, and gummy bears as snacks. We all sat down and ate and then decided to to play in the childrens play ground. There were swings and a slide. We took lots of photos and it was a lot of fun.

Dia 12: CPI Toural & Carrera de UNICEF
Hoy necesite despertarme temprano para el ultimo dia de colegio que tienen los chicos espanoles. Yo cogi mis tarjetas postales, fui al instituto y se las di a Maestra.Entonces nosotros pusimos nuestras mochilas sobre las mesas y hablamos juntos. Luego el colegio tuvo un desayuno para nosotros. En la cafeteria, habia chocolate con churros. El chocolate es un dulce muy importante en Espana. El desayuno gue muy delicioso. Pero Mike derramo su chocolate sobre su ropa, otras personas, la mesa, y la pared. Ja ja ja!!!! El necesito muchisimas servilletas para limpiar todo el chocolate. Al terminar de desyunar, regresamos a la biblioteca y yo me puse a escribir mucho en mi diario.
Today I had to get up early because it's the last day of school for the Spaniards. I grabbed my postcards, went to school, and gave them to Maestra. Then we dropped off our bookbags and talked with our friends. The school hosted a breakfast for us. In the cafeteria, they had chocolate con churros for us. Chocolate is a very important part of the Spanish diet. Breakfast was delicious. Mike however, spilled his chocolate all over his clothes, other kids, the table, and the wall. LOL!!!! He needed a bunch of napkins to clean up the chocolate mess. When we finished, we returened to the library and I continued to write a lot in my journal.
Al terminar , visitamos muchas aulas de clase en CPI do Toural. Visitamos la calse de plastica, technoliga y otras clases. Yo vi que los letreros estaban escritos en Gallego. Pero no hay una diferencia tan grande entre el Castellano y el Gallego por lo tanto yo entendi los carteles. Despues de la gira escolar nos fuimos a fuera.
When we finished, we visited several classrooms in CPI do Toural. We saw their art class, computer class, and other classes. I noticed that the signs on the walls were in Gallego. The difference between Castillian and Gallego is not that big so I could understand all the signs. After we turned the school we headed outside.
Por la trade, fuimos a ver un pequeno concierto de chichos de nuestra edad. Tambien habia una carrera alrededor de la escuela para recaudar dinero para UNICEF. Primero, vimos a los ninos pequenos correr y despues corrimos los chicos grandes. Yo corri con los otros chicos americanos y espanoles. Los chicos americanos nos divertimos mucho porque contamos muchos chistes durante la carrera y hicimos cosas muy graciosas. Por ejemplo, corrimos juntos y al final saltamos unos encima de otros como ranas. No ganamos un premio porque nosotros fuimos los ultimos en terminar la carrera.Las chicas americanas ganaron dos de los tres premios. Estabamos muy orgullosos. Despues tomamos bocadillos y refrescos que regalaban a todos los participantes.
In the afternoon, we attended a short concert with kids that are our own age. There was also a race around the school to fundraise money for UNICEF. The little kids raced first and then the older students. I ran with the americans and the Spaniards. The Americans had a great time because we horsed around, told jokes, and did lots of funny stuff. FOr example, at the end of the race we jumped over each other like frogs. We didn't win a prize because we were the last ones to arrive at the finish line. The American Girls won two of the top three prizes. We were very proud. After the race we ate sandwiches and had drinks that were available to all the participants of the race.
Despues del colegio, yo volvi a la casa de Pablo. Yo me dormi la siesta. Cuando me desperte, fuimos a la casa de Alvaro y jugamos baloncesto y futbol americano con Alvaro, Jake y Pablo. Nos divertimos. Al terminar comimos el almuerzo con jamon serrano, pan, refrescos de Coca Cola, y fruta.
After school, I returned to Pablo's house. I had a siesta. When I woke up, we went to Alvaro's house and played basketball and American football with Alvaro, Jake, and Pablo. We had a good time. When we finished we had jamon serrano, bread, Coke, and fruit for lunch..

Dia 11: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA: La Catedral & Las Cuviertas (Parte 3)
La mañana de hoy fue muy diferente de un día típico. El día comenzó a la una de la madrugada. Primero nosotros decidimos que James era un "dios" porque el sabe como se dicen todas las palabras en español.
This morning was not a tipical morning. Our day started off at 1:00am. First, we decided in middle of the night that James was a ¨god¨ becase he knows how to translate every word into Spanish.
En el albergue compartíamos 10 chicos una habitación. Brais estaba en una cama litera y tenia miedo de ser espachurrado porque Mike estaba durmiendo en la cama de encima y Mike es gordo. Ja ja ja!!!! Luego Mike comenzó a saltar en su cama y Brais grito que parase. Fue muy cómico. Al acostarse, Mike hizo mucho ruido. Macauley le pego a Mike para que parar de hacer ruido. Mike se enojo y pego a Scott. No se porque pero por fin nos quedamos dormidos.
In the hostal we had a room for 10 boys. Brais had a bunk bed and was afraid that he would be squashed in middle of the night because Mike was sleeping in the bed on top a Mike is fat. LOL!!! Then Mike started to jump on top of his bunk bed and Brais screamed ¨stop¨. It was hilarious. When we finally went to bed, Mike kept making a lot of noise. Macauley smacked Mike so we would stop. Mike got upset and hit Scott. Not sure how or why but we finally fell asleep.
A las 8h00 de la manana nos levantamos y fuimos a un restaurante para peregrinos. Comimos un desayuno tipico de España: leche caliente, Cola Cao, pan, y mermelada. Esto es muy diferente en los Estados Unidos porque en los EEUU siempre desayunamos tocino y un tipo de huevos. Otra cosa interesante es que los españoles siempre ven partidos de fútbol por eso también vimos un partido de fútbol durante el desayuno.
At 8:00am, we woke up and went to a restaurant for pilgrims. We ate a tipical Spanish breakfast: hot milk, Cola Cao, toast, and jam. This is very different then in the USA because we normally have bacon and eggs. Another interesting thing is that Spaniards are always wathcing soccer games even at breakfast.
Al terminar el desayuno, metimos nuestras cosas en el autobús y fuimos hacia la ciudad de Santiago de Compostela. Desde el autobús vimos a muchos peregrinos. Algunos eran jóvenes y otros eran muy viejos. Había muchos peregrinos en la calle porque ellos caminan por la manana cuando hace fresco no por la tarde cuando hace calor. Paramos en una colina donde había dos estatuas muy grandes de peregrinos. Vimos una vista muy bonita de la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela y sacamos fotos del grupo.
When we finished up, we got all our stuff into the bus and we headed towards the city of Santiago de Compostela. From the bus we could see lots of pilgrims. Some were young and others were very old. There were a lot of pilgirms on the road because they like to walk in the morning when its cool outside and not under the afternoon sun.
Cuando llegamos a la Catedral de Santiago de Compostela había muchos peregrinos de Italia, Francia, España, Portugal, Polonia, y también los Estados Unidos. Todos estaban muy contentos porque habían llegado. Algunos peregrinos se acostaron en la plaza y otros se abrazaron. Estaban muy emocionados.
When we arrived at the Cathedral of St James there were many pilgrims from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Poland, and even the USA. All of them were very happy because they had finally arrived at the cathedral. Some of the pilgrims collapsed on the floor of the plaza in front of the cathedral and others were hugging and kissing. They seemed very emotional.
Nuestro grupo entro en la Catedral. Era magnifica y muy grande. Yo nunca había visto una cosa similar. Me gusta la catedral porque soy católico pero también pienso que es un edificio asombroso. Es triste que no tenemos algo similar en los Estados Unidos. Los EEUU es un país joven en comparación a España y el resto de Europa. Entonces los EEUU no tiene castillos o catedrales en cada estado. Los monumentos en los Estados Unidos no son tan antiguos son más modernos. Nosotros también subimos a las cubiertas de la catedral es decir el tejado. Vimos una vistas panorámicas muy bonitas aunque estaba lloviendo.
Our group entered into the Cathedral. It was magnificient and very big. I had never seen anything like it. I liked the cathedral because I'm Catholic put I think it is also a amazing building. It´s sad that we don´t have something similar in the United States. The USA is a young country in comparison to Spain and the rest of Europe. That'swhy in the USA we do not have castles or cathedrals in every state. Monuments in the USA are not ancient, they are modern. We also got to visit and walk around the roof top of the Cathedral. We enjoyed some great panaromic views eventhough it was raining.
Al terminar la visita, Mike y yo hicimos una broma. Los dos nos metimos en un tren turista y le dijimos "adios" al grupo. Esto fue muy cómico porque Maestra, Ali, y Señor Gomez no vieron que nos escapábamos. Ja ja ja!!! Maestra nos vio el ultimo momento y nos gritó. Fue un día muy divertido.
When we finished our visit, Mike and I played a joke on the group. Both of us boarded a little tourist train and waived ¨goodbye¨to the group. It was very funny because Maestra, Ali, and Senor Gomez did not realize we were escaping. LOL!!!! Maestra finally saw us and yelled at us to come back. Today was a lot of fun.

Dia 10: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA: El Camino (Parte 2)
Hoy, yo me desperte temprano porque nosotros ibamos a Santiago de Compostela. Yo cogi mi cepillo de dientes, mi cepillo de pelo y otras cosas y las puse en mi mochilla para el viaje. Mi mama espanola me dio bocadillos para el almuerzo para los proximos dos dias tambien. Entonces llegamos al colegio y nosotros caminamos con los chicos espanoles todos juntos al autobus.Una cosa que note sobre los autobuses de los colegios en Espana es que ellos son "coach buses" no son como nuestros autobuses amarillos en los Estados Unidos.
Today, I woke up early because we had to go to Santiago de Compostela. I packed my tooth brush, my brush, and a few other things into my book bag. My Spanish host mom gave me several sandwiches for lunch for the next two days . Then we went to school and we all got on the school bus. Something I've noticed is that in Spain they have coach buses as their school bus and in the USA we have only yellow buses.
El viaje en el autobus duro tres horas. Yo dormi durante parte el viaje. Pero yo hable con los ninos espanoles y conoci a muchas personas. Entonces cuando nosotros llegamos al Camino de Santiago necesitamos caminar 15 kilometros.
Era un camino muy largo y al principio estaba nublado. Parecia que estabamos caminando por las nubes.
The bus ride took three hours. I slept a portion of the trip. I also spoke to several Spaniards and meet some new kids. When we arrived at The Walk to Saint James we had to hike 15 kilometers. It was a long and cloudy route. in the beginning, it looked like we were walking in the clouds.
Yo camine con muchas personas y yo mire el paisaje que tenia muchas colinas. Habia muchos campos con vacas, ovejas, y otros animales porque era una rural de Galicia. Tambien es el pasaje es muy bonito y yo saque muchas fotos con mi telefono mobil.
I walked with a lot of different kids and I looked at the country side that was extremely hilly. There were cows, sheep, and other animals on the fields because we were in rural Galicia. The countryside was very beautiful and I took a lot of photos with my cell phone.
Yo vi muchas casas en Galicia, muchos pueblos que estaban en colinas. Mas tarde durante el camino, yo vi que en el Camino de Santiago habia caca de los caballos y vacas porque pasabamos por granjas. Por eso, mis zapatos estaban sucios y olian mal.
I saw a lot of little houses that were perched up on the hills. Later on, I saw that on the Walk to Saint James there was horse and cow crap on the path because we hiked through several farms. That's why my sneakers got dirty and smelly.
A mitad de camino teniamos sed y paramos en un bar para peregrinos. Bebimos agua, cafe, y comimos algunos chocolates, fruta, y patatitas.
Half way through the walk we were thirsty so we stopped at a cafe for pilgrims. We drank water, cafe, and ate some chocolate, fruit, and potatoe chips.
Al terminar el tramo del Camino de Santiago nosotros llegamos a nuestro albergue en el pueblo de Triacastela. En las habitaciones de los ninos habian 10 camas. Tambien habia una sala comun para jugar juegos de mesa y mirar la television. Todos nos sentamos en la sala comun, hablamos, jugamos a las cartas, y al ajedrez. Tambien fuimos a un pequeno restaurante de pelegrinos para cenar. Yo hable mucho con ambos los chicos espanoles y americanos en espanol. Yo recorde mis modales de la mesa porque comportarse bien en la mesa es muy importane en Espana y todos los paises de Europa. Cuando regresamos al albergue hablamos juntos hasta que fue la hora de dormir.
When we finished our portion of the Walk to Saint James we arrived in our hostal in the town of Triacastela. In the boys rooms there were 10 beds paired up as bunk beds. There was also a family style room where we could all hang out to play board games and watch TV. We all hung out in the common room, talked, played cards, and checkers. We also went to a small restaurant that is set up for pilgrims to have dinner. I spoke with a lot of the Spanish and American kids. I practiced the table manners we had been taught because this is very important in Spain and all the European countries. When we returned to the hostal we hung out and talked until it was time to go to bed.

Today, I woke up early because we had to go to Santiago de Compostela. I packed my tooth brush, my brush, and a few other things into my book bag. My Spanish host mom gave me several sandwiches for lunch for the next two days . Then we went to school and we all got on the school bus. Something I've noticed is that in Spain they have coach buses as their school bus and in the USA we have only yellow buses.
